How to Create Three Income Streams that Works
You don't have to move mountains to accomplish this
I think programmers have a natural edge in creating side hustles. Hard to believe? Imagine a day without StackOverflow, and we would know how important content creation is for the success of the programmer community.
The most significant traffic source to my technical blogs is google search. This means that people are searching for the exact content I publish on Medium. Inspiration to write my articles comes from the side projects that I work on, either a new tech stack or a problem that I found challenging to solve, and so on.
Similarly, every programmer is working on something, stumbling upon unique challenges and situations. Documenting them in some place that’s easy to visit later is not only a good practice but could also other people facing similar challenges.
So here are the 3 ways to make some extra bucks.
1. Content Creation
If you have an option to join Medium’s partnership program, then start writing on this platform.
If that’s not an option, start writing consistently on dev.to platform. You will receive requests to write technical articles in a few weeks or months. This platform has an active community of developers that provide continuous feedback and support.
You could also use small pieces of the same content and post them on Twitter and Linkedin. Byte-sized information is a big hit among busy programmers.
I have got writing requests through my blogs in dev.to platform and my posts on Linkedin. So write on those platforms as well, even though there are no direct monetary benefits from these platforms.
2. Digital Products
When applying for a job through consultancies, I wasn’t sure what questions to expect in the interviews. So after clearing a bunch of interviews, I published an interview guide for people applying for the Java Technical Lead position. So far, I have made 13 sales out of 799 Visits to my Gumroad page.
That’s not a large number, but I know it’s a start. I also know that anyone can create content that would help others. You don't have to be super smart to figure out an idea. Create things that you need, and others would need that too.
3. Smart Investments
It is easy to ignore small wins. Small money made online will never vanish if you put that money in the right place.
Firstly, invest it in stocks of your choice. If the money is not enough to buy one stock, buy fractions.
Stocks that pay dividends are also a steady source of income. For instance, I bought a few stocks of Ford. Even when the stock price went down from the time I purchased it, the dividends generated a source of income.
